Contest Rules

1. Contest is open to any person or company in any city, state or country
2. Winners from outside of the United States will receive monetary award, not the Apple products
3. Winners from inside the United States may choose monetary or product award
4. Logos must be original works of art
5. Designer acknowledges that he/she is the person that created the logo and is its rightful owner
6. Designer certifies that logo does not infringe upon the copyrights of any third party
7. Designer gives permission for the entry to be published on this website
8. Winning logos will become the property of SEO Quotient LLC
9. Logos must be submitted in JPG, PNG or SVG format
10. Preferred dimensions would be 500×500 +/-
11. Winners must also provide accompanying PSD, AI or PNG with layers and fonts
12. There is no entry fee.
13. Entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. on May 5, 2010.
14. Winners will be announced on May 15th, 2010.
15. Prizes will be awarded on May 31st, 2010.
16. Entries must include JPG, name of designer, e-mail.

Design Direction

SEO Quotient™ will provide a professional networking platform (association and community) for online marketing professionals, website owners, webmasters, designers, social media consultants and SEO experts. The website needs to be designed as well.

The site will have 3 primary target web visitors:

1. Website owners
2. Online Marketing Professionals
3. Academics

The primary purpose behind the effort would be:

1. Education, discussion, collaboration
2. Professional networking, community, association
3. Search engine analysis, metrics, analytics

We would prefer round shapes similar to the following international brands:

Emphasis should be on the letters “SEO” and “Q”

Symbolic meaning should convey:

• Search
• Professional networking
• Internet marketing

Colors are wide open

Q: I was just wondering if this contest was legitimate since 95 percent of things on craigslist are not.

A: Understood, there are a lot of scams out there. Well, as you can see, we have published this contest on our website. So, we are risking our reputation if we fail to follow through. Yes, this is a legitimate contest. All entries will be posted. We will have 5 judges who are stakeholders in the business.

Q: I was also wondering how many people will be entering this.

A: I hope at least 5 people enter so that all money will be given out.

Q: Do you have any prefered colors / objects or anything like that

A: No preferences per se. Likely, the colors you use in the logo will influence the rest of the website design.

Q: Is one allowed to submit more than one logo design?

A: Sure, that would be great – increase your chances of winning one or more prizes.

Q: Why the name “SEO Quotient”?

A: It relates to Intelligence Quotient – or IQ – the thought is that your SEO Quotient is a measure of how optimized the site is for search engines. We plan to assign a score based on an algorithm.

Q: Is this email the one where the submissions has to be sent or there is an separated email for it?

A: No, please send all questions and/or submissions to blake @ the domain name of this website.

Q: There is a specific size for the final JPGs or you will accept any size?

A: Not necessarily. However 500px x 500px would give me enough size and resolution to study the qualities.

Q: If I were to participate would it be alright if I have a watermark on top of my design before payment?

A: That seems reasonable to me.

Q: What is your deadline for logo submissions?

A: Cinco de Mayo – we’ll sit around a table drinking Tequila and judge the entries on May 5, 2010.

Q: Are you accepting these logo contest submissions personally through this email?

A: Please send them to blake @ the domain name of this website.

Q: Are you looking for the SEO Q logo only, or do you asking for the icons as well?

A: As a minimum, the letters “SEO” and “Q” (or “seo” and “Q”) should be part of the logo. If you feel inspired to include an iconic symbol that reinforces the concept that this is about search, professional networking, the internet, etc., then that would certainly add to the qualities of the logo.

Q: I would like to participate in this contest. Please tell me how many designs I should submit?

A: As many designs as you like … would increase the chances of you winning.

Q: How many people are entering this?

A: I have received a handful of responses so far. I have no idea how many will enter. The contest lasts for a week. We’ll see at the end of the week.

Q: I am thrilled to be entering your contest. I was wondering if there is a limit to submissions?

A: No limit, the more submissions, the greater you chances.

Q: Are the winners determined by you (et al)? Or will they be posted for the public to assess and vote?

A: We have a panel of 5 people ranging from project manager to art director to consumer, including the stakeholders in the new website. To discourage manipulation of results, we will perform the judging privately and then publicly announce the results.

Q: I use illustrator to create logo. So final work will be in ai format, is that ok?

A: Ultimately, the logo will need to live on an HTML website. So, it needs to be in some web image form: JPG, PNG, SVG.

Q: What is full name of the company? Any taglines?

A: Full name of the company is SEO Quotient LLC. The working tagline is “Get found on Google”.

Q: Do you need me to do revisions during the selection period?

A: Certainly, if you want to submit something for comment so you can revise before the deadline, I’m happy to offer guidance and direction.

Q: I use illustrator to create logo. So final work will be in ai format, is that ok?

A: Sure.

Q: And are you going to upload all the designs on your site so that designers can view the progress?

A: We hadn’t planned on it, but I suppose we could.

Q: Should the logo say “SEO Quotient” or just “SEO Q” – or either?

A: It should contain the letters SEO and Q … not Quotient.

And the Funniest (Most Stupid) Comment

Note: This is about 3-4 days into the contest, we decided to extend the deadline from May 1st to May 5th and add more prizes, more prize money and more categories.  This is the response I got:

1. I provide you with an indemnification agreement wherein I agree not to pursue further action or damages, in exchange for an award of $500 — the equivalent of the top prize in the illegal contest.
2. You find the information I provided re: contest law valuable to your company for future reference, and contract my services for “legal research and consultation” in the one-time amount of $500.  In accepting this contract fee, I create a conflict of interest for myself in seeking further damages based on the points of law which I was hired as your consultant to provide.
3. My lawyer friend is actually willing to open a personal or class action suit, on spec.  He is apparently convinced that both he and I would make out better in the end, and has offered to handle the whole thing himself, with a simple affidavit from me and the printed materials I’ve collected re: the contest breaches.  It’s more hassle for me, but, hey … wouldn’t be too much more than signing this or that, then seeing how he does.
4. You convince me of why I should not do one of the above.
